Harry Hartley
(Canadian Grenadier Guards Corporal, 1942-1946)
As a teenager, Harry Hartley recalled going to the movies and seeing a newsreel of the atrocities Hitler’s Nazi forces were committing overseas. It was at that moment, as a Canadian, that he decided he needed to join the fight.
Although he didn’t meet the basic physical requirements since, at 115 pounds he was considered too light, Harry convinced the Army that he was man enough. On November 5th, 1942, Harry enlisted in the Army and would soon head off to war.
Shortly before the Veterans Memories website was completed, Harry Hartley passed away.
This site is dedicated to his memory.
