Len Dupuis
(Air Gunner/Trainer, 1943-1946)
Born into a large family, Len Dupuis, following in the footsteps of his older siblings, joined the military at a very early age. He was 16 when he enlisted with the Canadian Armoured Corps, and still underage the following year when he was discharged. His mother, worried for his safety, had sent the Army a copy of his birth certificate indicating that he had signed up well below the age requirements.
After his discharge, Len waited until he was legally old enough, and once again enlisted - this time with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He served on the East coast as a Trainer in Halifax. In 1944, he was positioned to be deployed to North Africa, but forces on hand overseas at the time succeeded in bringing down the oppressive African ruler, and his deployment was ultimately cancelled.
After his service, Len has remained active in Veteran affairs, working as the Sergeant-of-Arms at the Tecumseh Legion and as a member of the Colour Guard, participating in countless parades, civic ceremonies and celebrations, military functions, and community gatherings.
